MPS Academy small group training is designed for the player who is serious about accelerating their development. This is a 10-week program that will improve the player’s technical and tactical abilities through a progressive development approach. Our methodology follows a structured curriculum that emphasizes positional play, spatial awareness, technical proficiency, and increasing speed of play. Through our training academy, players will improve technically, will understand how to better manage time and space on the field, and will become more influential players on their teams. Group size is limited to 10-15 players.

Structured Training + Supervised “Free Play” = DEVELOPMENT

Our program combines the structured training program with a supervised “free play” component (COVID19 restrictions permitting). In addition to the 1 hour per week of structured group training, players who join our program will have access to an additional hour of “free play” on the adjacent fields. Pickup games are critically missing in our culture. Our “free play” games aim to re-create some of the unstructured, street soccer, pickup game culture. Before or after training, join in the “free play” fields to test your ability, be creative, and enjoy the freedom of the game.

Individual Functional Training

MPS Academy functional training emphasizes improving individual technique and tactics related to a specific position on the field. We tailor each training session for the skills, movements, and awareness needed by individual players to improve their play for a specific attacking or defending position. The skill set needed for a Barca-style overlapping wingback is different than that needed for a holding midfielder or a traditional central striker. Each training is customized to the needs of the player. These training sessions typically include one to three players.

International Playing Experiences

Spain 2021 Tour

MPS Academy provides international playing experiences (Europe, South America) to select players each year. We embrace the internationalism of the sport and see the game of football as a bridge to world culture. Benefits of international playing experiences include:

  • Exploring world culture through the world’s sport
  • Experiencing different styles of play
  • Testing ability of players and teams against similar levels in other soccer nations
  • Increasing knowledge of the game; advancing development

In the summer of 2021 (tentative), MPS Academy will be taking a team to Barcelona and San Sebastian, Spain to experience and compete in the Donosti Cup – the largest youth tournament in southern Europe.

Player Development Plans

Want an independent evaluation of your player? Want a road map to improvement? Are you committed to accelerate your development? MPS Academy offers a comprehensive and holistic approach for developing player development plans to help guide players in their development. We use a proven approach that includes player interviews, game observations (live and video), player self assessments, and analysis of strengths and weaknesses to identify player development goals and create a specific development plan for the player. Too often players are not provided clear communications on how to improve. We are here to make this crystal clear!

Video Analysis

MPS Academy makes use of state-of-the-art video technology for both game and individual player analysis. So much video is produced of youth soccer games, but so little is of high quality and even less is used to actually support player development. We offer detailed analysis of game videos to support identification of player strengths and weaknesses and areas of improvement. Typically, we utilize the player video in support of player development plans; providing visualizations of real, game moments that highlight areas of strength or those in need of improvement. MPS Academy is using state-of-the-art football video technology that increase the usefulness of video for player and team development.
